Need to modify existing PCB Gerber files but do not have the original design software or source files? PIC-CONTROL can review your manufacturing data and help with practical Gerber file modifications, PCB panel changes and CAM-related corrections.
From separating a single PCB from a panel to correcting board outlines, drill files or silkscreen details, tell us what you need changed. We will assess the files and advise on feasibility before proceeding.
Have your Gerber ZIP file and a short description of the required changes ready.
Your PCB Design Is Ready. Your Gerber Files Need a Change.
Small changes to PCB manufacturing files can become surprisingly difficult when the original CAD project is unavailable, the designer has moved on, or the PCB factory reports a CAM issue. You may not need a complete PCB redesign—just a carefully controlled modification to the existing fabrication data.
Our Gerber file editing service focuses on reviewing your existing files, understanding the requested change and preparing revised manufacturing data when technically feasible. For more substantial electrical or layout changes, we can discuss a separate PCB design scope.
What Can We Help You Modify?
PCB Panelization & Depanelization
Arrange a single PCB into a manufacturing panel, adjust a panel layout, or extract an individual PCB from an existing multi-board panel.
Board Outline & Mechanical Edits
Review or modify board profiles, cutouts, slots, mounting holes and related mechanical features where the change is supported by the fabrication data.
Silkscreen & Solder Mask Adjustments
Update readable markings and review solder mask openings or clearances for specific manufacturing or assembly needs.
Drill File & Layer Review
Investigate missing or misaligned layers, Excellon drill data, tool sizes, layer orientation and file-set consistency.
Gerber Repair & CAM Troubleshooting
Investigate Gerber files that display incorrectly, are rejected by a CAM system or contain inconsistencies identified by a PCB manufacturer.
Other Custom Gerber Modifications
Have a specific change in mind? Send your existing file set, a marked-up image or drawing and the intended result for an engineering assessment.
PCB Manufacturer Rejected Your Gerber Files?
If your PCB supplier reports an invalid outline, missing drill data, layer mismatch or another CAM concern, forward the supplier’s exact error message together with your Gerber ZIP. We can assess what is wrong and whether the available files are sufficient for correction.
Important: A corrected Gerber export is not automatically proof that a board is electrically correct or accepted by every manufacturer. Final fabrication approval remains subject to the selected PCB manufacturer’s CAM and DFM checks.
How Our Gerber Editing Service Works
1. Send Your Files
Email the current Gerber files as a ZIP archive. Include drill files, any PCB supplier feedback and a description or marked-up drawing of the requested changes.
2. Review & Quote
We review the available information, clarify the required outcome and advise whether the modification is feasible and what additional design information may be needed.
3. Edit & Deliver
Following scope confirmation, we perform the agreed changes and provide the applicable updated manufacturing files for your review and factory submission.
What Files Should You Send?
- Gerber ZIP archive — copper, solder mask, silkscreen and board outline layers, where available.
- NC drill / Excellon files — including drill tools and plated or non-plated hole information when available.
- A marked-up drawing or screenshot — indicate exactly what must be changed and what must remain unchanged.
- PCB manufacturer feedback — copy the CAM rejection or fabrication issue if applicable.
- Original PCB CAD project — optional for simpler artwork changes, but often important for electrical or complex layout modifications.
For multilayer boards, provide the layer order and stack-up details where available. Please only share files you own or are authorized to modify. If an NDA is required, contact us before sharing confidential design files.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you edit Gerber files without the original PCB design files?
Some modifications can be completed directly from Gerber and drill data, including certain artwork, mechanical and panel changes. Changes that affect traces, nets, component placement or electrical performance may require the original PCB CAD project or additional engineering work.
Can you convert a panelized Gerber file into a single PCB?
In many cases, yes. If the panel contains repeated copies of a PCB, we can assess whether one board can be extracted with its matching copper, mask, outline and drill information.
Can you help when my PCB factory cannot import my Gerber files?
Yes, we can review the files and the factory’s error details to investigate the cause. Some issues are related to missing files, format interpretation, inconsistent coordinates or manufacturing data. Correction depends on what information is available.
Will the edited Gerber files be ready for production?
We aim to deliver a consistent file set for the agreed scope. However, final manufacturing acceptance and electrical correctness need appropriate engineering verification and review by your chosen PCB manufacturer. We cannot guarantee CAM acceptance without the manufacturer’s validation.
How much does Gerber file editing cost?
Pricing depends on file quality, the complexity of the requested changes, the number of layers and the information available. Send us your files and a clear scope so we can review and provide a quotation.
Need Help Editing Your Gerber Files?
Tell us what needs to change. Whether it is a simple PCB panel adjustment or a Gerber file that your factory cannot process, PIC-CONTROL can assess the issue and discuss the next step.
